When you support the Laurelhurst School Foundation, you support our kids and all kids. One-third of all funds raised by our local school foundation goes to the PPS Parent Fund.
The amazing thing about our Laurelhurst community is how it steps up to help our school and our kids. Right now, we need every family to help sustain the well-rounded and personalized education our kids deserve.
We’re working to fund the teaching resources needed to take our children’s education from good to exceptional. When we all contribute, our gifts—however large or small—add up to something extraordinary.
Make your gift by November 1st to help us enrich Laurelhurst kids in math, literacy, technology and library. Click here to donate online or write a check to the Laurelhurst School Foundation and drop it at the school office with a completed form.
Thank you for supporting Laurelhurst School through your generous donations. Our kids feel the impact of this extra help every day.
A Direct Appeal for our Children from your Laurelhurst School Foundation
Our children’s education depends on us—each and every one of us. The sad truth is, without your help, our public school budget for next year alone just isn’t enough to help our kids master crucial skills, discover their talents, and be inspired to fulfill their potential.
Donate now and join the dedicated and passionate community of Laurelhurst families who keep library, literacy support, advanced math and more in our schools. Even a small gift can make a big difference.
Donate online through a one-time or monthly payment. Or download a donation form and make a check out to The Fund for PPS with ‘Laurelhurst Foundation’ in the memo line, then simply drop it off in the school office. The direct appeal ends November 1st so please make your donation now!
How does your donation help our school?
“I’m so grateful that our literacy specialist was able to help my daughter get her reading skills up to grade level—their understanding and support made all the difference. Last week she finished her first chapter book, and she was so excited!”
– Laurelhurst Parent
For many years, Laurelhurst families like yours have helped enrich our kids’ learning experiences by contributing to funding additional staffing resources at our school. During this school year, Foundation dollars directly funded five Educational Assistants in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. By supporting EAs with Foundation funding, our school’s baseline budget is freed up to support equally critical positions such as a full-time Librarian, Reading Specialists, and other Interventionists.
How can you help?
We have the power to make a real difference in our children’s lives. Our ultimate goal is to inspire more families to join this remarkable Laurelhurst community by getting involved.

What you should know
A curious mind, and a generous heart: giving teaches both
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your thoughtful gifts. You are making an incredible impact for our children and their futures.
All donations to the Foundation are tax deductible under the Portland Schools Foundation’s 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
“We want to donate to support extra staff for our kids, but it’s tough to write a big check for the whole year. So we set up a recurring monthly donation through The Fund for Portland Public Schools. We like that it is a predictable expense for our household budget—and predictable income for the Foundation.”
– Tracy, parent of Laurelhurst 6th and 8th graders
Things to remember:
- It takes $280 per student each year to fund these staff positions.
- We must meet or exceed the amount raised last year to save crucial programs.
- You can pay in monthly installments to make budgeting easier.
YOU AND YOUR LAURELHURST FOUNDATION
YOUR FOUNDATION
The Laurelhurst School Foundation is an organization of parents, teachers, and community members committed to improving the quality of education at Laurelhurst School. The Foundation works in cooperation with the Laurelhurst PTA with the belief that great communities make great schools. The PTA does a fantastic job raising funds for supplies, equipment and special programs but cannot fund staff – only the Foundation can do that.
THE PPS UMBRELLA
Many school foundations in Portland work under the non-profit umbrella of The Fund for Portland Public Schools to supplement school funding for teachers. In an effort to maintain quality throughout the district, one-third of the money raised by individual school foundations after the first $10,000 is set aside in the Equity Fund for use as grants to high-need schools. Two-thirds of your contributions to Laurelhurst School Foundation go directly to Laurelhurst to support staffing at our school.
FUNDING DECISIONS
Decisions made about how to spend funds raised by our Foundation are made by our Principal, in consultation with staff and parents through the PTA and Site Council. Contributions to the Foundation are raised by an annual direct appeal by our Laurelhurst families and community. In addition, the Foundation offers an annual Laurelhurst Auction and Party. Let us know if you would like to participate in our efforts – we’d love to have you!
